BELIEF OF THE NINE EMPEROR GOD

One of the oldest and most revered temples in Malaysia

The Nine Emperor Gods (also known as “Jiu Huang Da Di”) are revered deities in Taoism, believed to be nine celestial star lords who bring blessings, protection, and longevity.

It takes place from the 1st to the 9th day of the 9th lunar month every year.

During the festival, devotees observe a strict vegetarian fast to purify the body and mind, and to show respect to the deities.

Only pure vegetarian food is allowed – no meat, eggs, dairy, or “five pungent spices” (garlic, onion, chives, leeks, shallots).

  • No killing or harming animals
  • Wear plain or light-colored clothing (usually white or yellow)
  • Avoid entertainment venues
  • Maintain physical and spiritual cleanliness
